Loose Change to Loosen Chains, or LC2LC, is a campaign led by students of all ages to rescue victims of modern day slavery. The campaign was launched by a 7th grade student from Christian Fellowship School in Ashburn, Virginia who believes one person can make a difference. Inspired by the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, William Wilberforce, Mother Teresa, Gary Haugen and others who have fought for equality and justice, Zach Hunter wanted to do something about the problem of oppression and slavery today.
Hunter learned about International Justice Mission, an organization founded by Gary Haugen that rescues victims of slavery and other forms of oppression. He discovered that kids could get involved by getting educated about the problem and raising funds to actually emancipate modern day slaves. Millions of children, women and men are held as slaves in the world. Sometimes they have borrowed a small amount of money to pay a debt such as a medical bill. They then find themselves in bondage to the money-lender and may work in a rock quarry breaking rocks by hand, making bricks, rolling cigarettes or cutting gemstones. Victims are often beaten or threatened with violence if they try to leave or aren’t productive enough. These are the victims IJM is helping.
We can make a difference right hear by joining this campaign and raising money through the car wash and asking people for their loose change. We are called to help those in need. Psalm 106:3 says, “Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right.” You can be the change!
