I'm New Here

Visiting a church for the first time can be confusing and intimidating. You don't know where you're going; finding the restrooms, the nursery, or the Sanctuary is more difficult than it should be. We want you to feel comfortable when you visit with us and hope this page will answer your questions.

What time are the services?

We offer two Sunday morning worship services. The first service begins at 9:00 a.m. and is traditional in style. The second service begins at 11:15 a.m. and is contemporary in style. If you are not sure which style would be best for you, we encourage you to check out both of them. Sometimes people are surprised by which service feels most comfortable, and the only way you can figure that out is to try them both!

Do you have free childcare available?

Absolutely! We offer a free, professionally-staffed nursery for infants up to two years old from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and free childcare for kids two years of age through kindergarten during the 9:00 a.m. service and the 11:15 a.m. service. If you are visiting us for the first time just know that your child (up to kindergarten age) will receive quality, loving child care. If you have a child who is older than kindergarten age, he or she will need to sit with you during both the 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services. We also have a Sunday School hour that occurs between the two morning services from 10:10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. We have childcare available for infants through kindergarten at this time and Sunday School classes available for all children up to 5th grade. If you have more questions about where our childcare and Sunday School classes are located, or the procedures for checking your children in, please visit the Children’s Ministry section of the website, or contact Becky Orin, our Nursery Director, at 281.634.8955 or becky [dot] orin [at] sugarlandmethodist [dot] org.

What do I wear?

Regardless of whether you attend the traditional 9:00 a.m. service or the 11:15 a.m. service you will see people dressed in a variety of clothing. We encourage people to come wearing whatever they are most comfortable in. It is very common to see people dressed in three piece suits sitting next to people wearing jeans and a t-shirt. You certainly will never need to buy special clothes just so you can attend our church, so come knowing that your wardrobe will never be an issue for you. Come as you are!

Where is the church located?

Sugar Land First United Methodist Church is located at 431 Eldridge Road in Sugar Land, Texas (77478). We have a map application at the top of this page so you can figure out how to get from your home to our church.

Where do I go once I get there?

If you are coming to a worship service, or to speak to a pastor or talk to someone in our offices, you will be looking for our Sanctuary Building. Click Here for a map of all of our facilities so you can see where everything is located. Once you enter the main doors to the Sanctuary Building you will see a welcome table to your left. This is where we like to receive new visitors as they come in and where we like to send them home with a gift and some information about our church. On Sunday mornings we always have greeters available to answer your questions and to show you around. We have refreshments available at the welcome table and a coffee bar in the Education Center. The Education Center can be found on the map of our facilities located on this page. If you need to drop off children for childcare or Sunday School, you will find all of our children’s services located in KidsWorld, which you can also find on the facilities map. If you come to visit our church and still don’t know where you should go, just ask anyone you see. Everyone here is friendly and eager to make you feel comfortable.

Where do I park?

We have plenty of parking available, so you will never have to fight to find a place to park your car.  While our church faces Eldridge Road, our parking lot and all of the church entrances are in the rear of the building. You can reach our parking lot from either 7th Street or Rolling Mill Drive, which both intersect Eldridge Road. If you are coming to a Sunday morning worship service for the first time just know that the Sanctuary Building is where you want to go and it is the central-most building on our campus. Just follow all of the other people as they get out of their cars to walk inside and you should be ok!

I have a question that you haven’t covered here!

Don’t worry! We want to insure that your first visit with us is very comfortable and carefree, so you can focus on exploring your relationship with God. If you need any questions answered before you feel ready to come and check us out, just contact our Pastor of Connectional Ministries, Erik Gragert, at 281.634.8903, or at erik [dot] gragert [at] sugarlandmethodist [dot] org. He would love to talk with you and assist you in any way that he can.
